 In Slagelse DT we trust

After the European exit of Danish clubs like... Viborg HK, Ikast-Bording EH and GOG... the Danish hopes lies on Slagelse DT. However Slagelse faced a difficult task away against Dunaferr NK from Hungary in the 1st leg of the CL-semifinal. The beginning showed how difficult it would be get a good result back to Denmark. Dunaferr went up with 4 goals (4-0) thanks to an impressive start from Radulovics. It took Slagelse 8 minutes to score their first goal by Fridrikas on a 7m throw. A few minutes later Slagelse got contact cutting the margin to a single goal (6-5). Great play from Dferr-goalie Pálinger left the Slagelse-players unsuccessful on many occasions during the 1st half and Dunaferr could take a 2-goals lead with them in the dressing-rooms at halftime. The 2nd half started just as the 1st... with Dunaferr in charge. The Hungarians went ahead with 3 goals (20-17) half-way through, but in just 4 minutes everything was turned around. Especially Fridrikas made a huge impact... scoring 2 goals in a row and with a further 2 goals, Slagelse went ahead (20-21). The Dunaferr-players seemed frustrated at this point and had huge problems getting the ball behind Slagelse-keeper Leganger. The Norwegian world-class goalkeeper had an excelent 2nd half and it was much due to her performance that Slagelse expanded their lead to 3 goals (22-25). This margin maintained at the end of the match (25-28). The best players for the host were Vincze, Radulovics and Pálinger. For Slagelse Leganger and Popovic were in a league of their own with great performances from Melgaard, Savic and Kliukaite. The result gives Slagelse a great chance to quailfy for their 2nd CL-final in two years. However Slagelse is only half-way there with a lot of work to due.

Marianne Rokne going to FCK Haandbold, Aalborg DH, Randers HK or Horsens HK?

08.04.05 - 01.00
 HBL: Transfer season - rumours

With SK Aarhus relegated from the HBL - it also meant goodbye to their Norwegian profile, Marianne Rokne. At the moment, her future club haven't been publiced, but there're many rumours. 4 clubs could be her next destination according to Danish mediea; FCK Haandbold, Randers HK, Aalborg DH or Horsens HK. Right now the best odds are on the sharks. Aalborg DH will be without Astrup and Farkas next season and are in need of an experienced playmaker. Furthermore Rokne might want to join her fellow Norwegian players... the Lunde-twins and pivot Blanco. Other players heading to Gigantium arena - according to rumours - could be Slagelse-goalkeeper Rikke Schmidt and Nürnberg-star Stefanie Offenböck. Other interesting rumours surrounding the future coach of Viborg HK. At the moment it seems as if the next coach could be slovenian Tone Tisejl. Tisejl has been very successful for Krim Ljubljana winning the Champions League twice. Another good guess could be the current Kolding-coach, Morten Arvidson, taking over in Viborg. It's a fact that the young Danish talents are having a hard time getting any minutes in the HBL. Therefore some could be heading for the Norwegian club, Sola. The club has announced it will reinforce the squad with some of the very talented Danish youngsters. No specific player has been announced, but some youngsters from the 1st Division might be a good guess. Kolding IF will have to due without 4 of their biggest profiles next season. Nodjialem Myaro(FRA), Camilla Carstens(NOR), Christina Roslyng and Pernille Hansen will leave the club. Roslyng heading to FCK Haandbold - according to a...rumour!

"I believe no one is perfect"

"Europamester" has had the opportunity to interview one of the very best female handballers right now, Bojana Popovic. We asked her about her past, her future and if she’ll return to the national team of Serbia & Montenegro. Read the interview here

Ikast-players awaiting result from Viborg.

Josephine Touray still a "speedy gonzales"

A great match from Anna Kareeva and the rest of the GOG-players, but it wasn't enough.

Probably the last picture of Camilla Andersen on "europamester".

Anja Andersen was pleased with the top-spot, but she is thinking ahead against Dunaferr. Anja is as always ambitious: "I want to win in Hungary next weekend".

 A real Horror-movie

Bye Bye GOG, SK Aarhus and Camilla Andersen. The 22nd and final round of the HBL had everything and to make it even more intense; Danish TV-viewers could follow the games live on TV2 ZULU. Despite the matches were broadcasted live on television - many spectators had chosen the real thing in the arenas. In many arenas, the clubs had decided not to hear about the other matches. "Sportscenter Ikast" was one of these arenas and as a result of the chosen silence, the atmosphere was a bit unusual. Neither spectators nor the players from both teams knew if they had made it with the result in hand. The match ended with a comfortable Ikast-victory of 11-goals margin (32-21). This could be "she loves me, she loves me not" for both teams. The attention of the Ikast-players went quickly to the match between Viborg HK and GOG. The Kolding-women had their eyes and ears in Ringsted, where TMS Ringsted played against SK Aarhus. Kolding IF could hope that SK Aarhus wouldn't win with greater margin than 10 goals. This would secure Kolding IF yet a season in the HBL and relegate SK Aarhus. The result from Ringsted was the first to arrive to "Sportscenter Ikast" and with great celebration among the Kolding-players. SK Aarhus had won with 9 goals in Ringsted (24-33), but lost in the battle for survival with just 2 goals. The Ikast-players were still anxious to get the result from Viborg. If GOG couldn't win with more than 3 goals, Ikast would go through to the playoffs. Finally the results were announced - followed by an ecstatic home-crowd... Viborg HK and GOG ended 32-32 and Ikast-Bording EH is in the final race for the Danish Championship Title.

As happy as the Ikast- and Kolding-players were, as sad can you imagine the SK Aarhus- and GOG-players. GOG needed a victory of 4 goals in Viborg to qualify for the playoffs -ahead of Ikast-Bording. 4 minutes from the end, GOG were up with 1 goal (29-30), but the luck wasn't on their site this evening. In Ringsted; many Aarhus-players were crying after the final whistle. In the end... only 2 goals decided their relegation from the HBL. SK Aarhus knew before the clash that they had to win with a great margin. Kolding was 22 goals better in the HBL-table, so it would take something special to survive. Nevertheless; Kolding was at some point behind with 13 goals in Ikast and SK Aarhus ahead with 9 goals. At this point Kolding IF would have been relegated. SK Aarhus played an excellent match away against the other relegated side, TMS Ringsted. -However the players missed wide-open chances on more occasions and this was crucial in the end. Actually SK Aarhus still had 3 fast-breaks in the last 3 minutes, but the chances were all missed. Kolding IF won't be directly relegated; they will play in the play-outs against... either Team Esbjerg or Randers HK.

Before the 22nd round, Team Esbjerg was 1 point ahead of Randers HK in the HBL-table. Team Esbjerg played Aalborg DH at home in "Stadionhallen", but didn't stand a chance against the Sharks. In the end the visitors won by 11 goals (29-40). This result could be the chance for Randers HK playing away against FCK Haandbold. If they could conquer just 1 point in Copenhagen, they would be ready for yet a season in the HBL. At the break, FCK Haandbold was up with 6 goals (17-11). Especially Camilla Andersen (retiring) played outstanding in her last match on top level. She certainly wanted a victory in her last match, but after the break Randers came closer and equalized in the very last minute. The match was over (60:00)... only the last 3-meter throw was to be taken by Mette Vestergaard (FCK). She scored from a narrow angle to devastate the visitors and bringing delight to Esbjerg.

Right next to the delighted Esbjerg-players, which had lost with 11 goals, stood the Aalborg-players and waited for the final result in Slagelse. Aalborg DH could end on top of the HBL-table; if Slagelse DT would loose to Horsens HK. This seemed very unlikely, as Horsens had nothing to play for. However Horsens took the lead early in the match (3-4). At halftime, everything was in perfect order. The host with a margin of 8 goals at the break, a lead which also stood firm after the final whistle. The Slagelse-players could congratulate each other for a fine performance and an excellent position in front of the decisive playoffs. - see the FINAL standing of the HBL-primary round. Which club will be awarded as Danish Champion, this won't be decided before the playoffs. Pretty amazing... the 4.600 tickets for Aalborg DH vs. Viborg HK in the semifinals, has already been sold out.

The 22nd and last round of the HBL is scheduled Tuesday.

02.04.05 - 21.25
We have a thriller ending on Tuesday

The last round on Tuesday will be a thriller. Who will be relegated; Kolding IF or SK Aarhus? Who will win the primary round of the HBL; Slagelse DT or Aalborg DH? Who will take the finale playoff-spot; Ikast-Bording EH or GOG? Who will avoid the final playout-spot; Team Esbjerg or Randers HK? Many issues will be solved this Tuesday when national television will cover to matches live. The battle to avoid relegation could have been decided today in the match between SK Aarhus and Kolding IF. There would have been no return for the host with a defeat, but Kolding threw away a 6-goals lead when SK scored 7 successive goals in the last 15 minutes. A great performance from 21-year old Lene Thomsen(11goals) and 22-year old Louise Svalastog(7), didn't matter in the end. The decisive goal on penalty was scored by Skuladottir(7) 12 seconds from the end.

GOG could have taken a big step into the playoffs, if they had won against Slagelse DT. However a perfect performance from pivot Lene Lund Nielsen(7) and amazing display from goalie Suslina wasn't enough. Slagelse took the lead from the beginning going up with 4 goals (5-9). GOG managed to equalize just before halftime (14-14). The 2nd half was very even and if GOG had been more prolific 6 against 5, they would have been up with several goals. Nevertheless with 10minutes remaining the clash was still tied (23-23). Despite being 6 against 5 during 4 of the last period, GOG only scored a single goal. Slagelse scored 4 goals and took the 2 points. For Slagelse; goalie Cecilie Leganger was outstanding. Also Mette Melgaard and Maja Savic showed a great performance.

Nothing but 2 points would matter to Ikast-Bording EH against FCK Handball. The visitors could also dream of the playoffs with a victory, but this seemed very unlikely after 12minutes of play. At this point Ikast was up with 7 goals (10-3). Especially Josephine Touray(9), Kristine Andersen(6) and goalie Karin Mortensen made the FCK-players suffer. FCK actually managed to get back in the match on more occasions (11-10, 25-22), but Ikast was the stronger side this evening and got their first victory in "Sportscenter Ikast".

In Horsens only the visitors had something at stake. Team Esbjerg would like to avoid the playout-spot, but needed a victory to keep Randers HK behind them in the HBL-table. In the end 10 goals from Lotte Haandbæk and 9 goals from Beatrix Benyats wasn't enough to secure more than a draw. For Horsens HK Mette Sjøberg was as ever the most successive player with 8 goals. The match was the last for Horsens HK in "Forum Horsens" for Åsa Eriksson, Tine Ladefoged, Heidi Søndergaard and Sara Holmgren. In Randers it was no surprise that it ended with a 15-goal margin in favor of Randers HK. TMS Ringsted has nothing at stake and is already relegated - see the current standing.

Goal-difference can be the decisive for Kolding IF, SK Aarhus, Ikast-Bording EH and GOG's destiny to conquer the last playoff-spot or to avoid relegation. It will be a fight for every goal when Kolding and Ikast-Bording clash together. SK Aarhus will probably need a margin of 10-15 goals victory home against TMS Ringsted. GOG will face a difficult task going to Viborg for a victory.

 CL-quarterfinalists lost their breath

Both Viborg HK and Ikast-Bording EH suffered some crucial defeats this evening in the HBL. Both teams seem to have topped their form and lost their breath in the 2nd half. Ikast-Bording lost at home to GOG, in their 1st match in "Sportscenter Ikast". Viborg HK suffered a heavy loss in Gigantium, Aalborg, were the Sharks had almost no problems in a very one-sided 2nd half. Aalborg DH took charge from the beginning going up 3-0 and 10-3. Viborg however came right back in the game and equalized just before the break. The 2nd started as the 1st with Aalborg DH cruising over the visitors, but this time Viborg didn't have what it took to get back. In the end the ecstatic home crowd could celebrate a 9-goals margin in favor of their favorites. The new, amazing "Sportscenter Ikast" was the place for another surprise this evening. It was called "the match of the final playoff-spot" and it was two fine performances from Ikast and GOG in an intense battle. Both teams had a lead of 3-goals during the clash, but at halftime, the score was level (18-18). Within the last 10 minutes of the match Ikast had the upper hand with a 3-goals lead (29-26), but some stupid suspensions gave GOG the chance to level the match once again (30-30). GOG kept their nerves in a thriller ending and keeps their hopes of a place in the playoffs - see the current standing.

FCK Haandbold

Sladjana Dronic

29.03.05 - 19.15
 FCK Haandbold signs major talent

FCK has signed the 19-year old Suzana Cubela for 3 years. The player for Serbia & Montenegro is 186cm tall and is one of the most talented youngsters from Balcan. Cubela scored 9 goals for the SCG-youth team when they won over Netherlands with 41-26 in WC-qualification last weekend. Cubela had a long-term agreement with her current club, Hummel Rosa, but FCK has now succeeded to buy her. Another SCG-player will also be heading for the Danish capital. Sladjana Dronic has signed a contract with the club that will last for 2 years. 32-year old Dronic has represented Hypo Niederösterreich among others. In 2004 the left back finnished 2nd on the Champions League topscorer's table. Both players will start July 1st 2005.

Cubela: "I'm looking forward moving to Copenhagen. I want to develop my skills further and I'm sure that the conditions FCK Haandbold provides, will be perfect for me".

Dronic: "FCK Haandbold is an interesting and ambitious club. I'm looking forward to play in the strong Danish league".

Østergaard(FCK-Chairman): "I'm very happy that we have secured Cubela for the next 3 seasons. She's one of the brightest talents right now. Dronic comes with the right mentality and will, something we have been missing the current season. She'll be an important profile with her aggressive defensively skills and with her on board we will get closer to the top in the Danish league".

Other new FCK-players next season: Josephine Touray(Ikast), Katalin Pálinger(Dunaferr) and Sara Holmgren(Horsens).

Problems will occur in the next weeks

Due to changes at europamester.dk/english - some features will be "out of work" in the next couple of weeks. However europamester.dk/english will still be able to bring you the latest news from Danish female handball. Summaries from the HBL and the Danish Cup, plus statistic from Champions League, EHF-Cup and CupWinnersCup might not be working or be online. We will continue to work on the problems and hopefully be up and running in no time. BTW - the new design shouldn't have been online until this summer therefore it says HBL2005/06. At this point we could just as well upload the new design and solve all the problems at once... NOW!
