4 times in a row for Ikast/Bording EH (played November 6th)
NEWS Ikast/Bording EH celebrated the comeback of playmaker K.Andersen by qualfying for their
4th Cup-final in 4 years. In a very close and interesiting macth Ikast won over the Quarterfinals
HBL 2004/05 defending champions Viborg with 33-27. In total it will be Ikast/Bording's 7th Cup-final. Semifinals
In the final awaits Horsens HK that is in its second Cup-final ever. Last time Horsens HK  Final
DANISH CUP where in the final, the club lost to GOG/Gudme.

CLUBS Team Esbjerg vs. Horsens HK
In their prior 5 encounters in the HBL, Horsens HK had never beaten Team Esbjerg and in
CL 2004/05 the first match of the season Team Esbjerg won with 7 goals over Horsens HK.
In the Cup however Horsens HK had little problems running over the promoted side from
CWC Esbjerg. After 10 minutes the scoreboard showed a margin of 4 goals (2-6) much thanks to
the physical strength of the Horsens-players who had no problems stopping the Esbjerg-
EHF-CUP attack. A much needed timeout from Esbjerg-coach Petersen inspired more will into the
players, but it didn’t change the fact that Horsens HK was in a class of their own this
afternoon. Especially Sjøberg and CK.Pedersen scored as pleased on the poor Esbjerg-
goalie who found no luck. In the other end Nilsen saved many penalties and the great
defence in front of her made it easy climbing for a high savings percentage.
One of the main reasons for the poor Esbjerg performance was that the strategist
Haandbæk had suffered a back tension during the training and she was ruled out of the
game after 15 minutes of the game, at this point the gap was increased to 6 goals (4-10).
With playmaker Haandbæk out of the game and an important clash against Kolding IF in
the HBL approaching… Petersen decided to spare some of the profiles in the second half.
The battle for glory in the Danish Cup was lost. In the second half Horsens increased to a
12 goal margin (11-23) before slowing down. Long-time injured Swedish-legend Eriksson
saw action for Horsens HK and its great to see her on her way back to former strength.

Sjøberg (HHK): “Last time we had problems with their defence,
but this time we were prepared and succeeded. Furthermore
Haandbæk had to go out and she’s very important for Team
Esbjerg. We are in the Cup-final and that’s massive. It doesn’t
matter if it will be Viborg or Ikast”

Haandbæk (EBJ): “We showed a bad performance
today and made many technical mistakes. I suffered
with back-problems and some of the other profiles
have had problems to. Our squad is very small and
this was notable. We have an important match next
week against Kolding IF in the HBL and we hope to
        be back with full strength”.

Hylle (HHK-coach): “The difference from the first encounter
against Esbjerg and today was that we found the solution to
the defence of Esbjerg. Furthermore we were stronger
  physically”.

  Ikast/Bording EH vs. Viborg HK
9 games 5 lost, but that’s in the HBL. This is the Danish Cup and with the long-awaited
comeback from Ikast-playmaker K.Andersen… Ikast/Bording EH had high hopes of some
glory in the Cup. The task was however the defending champions Viborg HK, who has a
more impressive record in the HBL so far.
During the first half both teams had the lead, but the gap was never greater than a single
goal. The pattern continued in the second half where Viborg went up with one goal
followed by two Ikast-goals in succession (17-16) to pleasure of home-crowd. Once again
Viborg made it all even (18-18) and many people expected Ikast/Bording to crack at any
moment, but with K.Andersen back in control… Ikast/Bording was given the boost needed
to keep the high-level going for more than just 40 minutes. The match was also a duel
between the two goalkeepers of the national team… Mortensen (IBEH) and Bager-
Nørgaard (VHK). Both started well, but in the second half Mortensen had a bigger role
when Ikast/Bording after 45 minutes took charge and went up with 4 goals (22-18). Main
reasons for the Ikast-success were a great defence with a fantastic performance from
Mortensen and a well structured attack by K.Andersen.
Ikast expanded their lead to 6 goals (25-19), but then Fruelund took action and almost
single-handedly put Viborg back in the game closing the gap to 3 goals (30-27). With 4
minutes left nothing was still decided, but Ikast/Bording wasn’t to let the victory slip from
their hands. Ikast/Bording scored the last 3 goals to seal their place in the final. It will be
  the 4th Cup-final for Ikast/Bording in 4 years… impressive!

Brødsgaard (IBEH):”We have been under a lot of pressure due
to bad results, but today we were more relaxed and didn’t make
any mistakes or technical errors. After the loss in the HBL we
want to get some revenge against Horsens HK in the Cup-final”.

Mortensen (IBEH):”Today we had control over the match from the
beginning. After the heavy loss against GOG in the HBL we had
some player-meetings and decided to show a different attitude.
Today all the players were ready and it was notable. Hopefully
this performance bring us back to our true level, also in the HBL
where we hope we’ll beat Dalmose’s side (Aalborg DH) next
      weekend”.

K.Andersen (IBEH):”It’s great to be back and to be a part of this
victory. The attitude in the squad has changed since the terrible
performance in Gudme and we wanted this victory”.
